My go to Micro RDS

Great red dot that looks really nice on a pistol and has a good size window for its size. Love how much you get in the box. The dots probably the brightest I've seen on a RDS making it easy to shoot on bright days. This RDS has been my go to for smaller pistols (i.e P365 XMacro). I currently own 2 CCW's.

I've been wanting a red dot on my CCW Springfield Armory XD compact 40 and XDs Compact 9. I finally got one for the 40 and mounted with the help of Outer Impact adapter plate as mine is not cut out for a red dot. Once I got the rear sight removed it was a breeze to mount and sight in. I plan to get one now for my 9. Easy to adjust for sighting in and once I got used to the dot location, I was on the target quickly and real tight groups. Great optic Vortex! If you're on the fence about a red dot, just do it and get a Vortex!

I had several of the original Defenders with the 14hr shutoff and the alleged refresh rate issue. I never noticed the refresh rate issue unless until I watched YT reviewers complaining about it, and then I had to specifically looked for it. Only after looking for it did I realize that it impacted my shooting exactly ZERO. This newest CCW with the 10 minute shutoff and crisper led emitter takes care of all those previous issues that everybody except for me cared about. This newest Defender CCW is an absolute win win for anybody that wants a no hassle optic to mount on their concealed carry guns. There's no wondering what screws to use because they are included with the optic. Just grab your particular gun's listed screws and mount away.

I mounted the Defender 6 Moa on my Bul SAS II 3.25 UL and I'am extremely happy with it. It is extremely strong I recommend it without hesitation and in fact a member of my club who tried it bought one directly.

I purchased this a year ago. I haven't gone shooting for a few months. When I went to verify it was sighted in battery was DEAD. replaced the battery after ordering new ones, got off about 30 shots and unit stopped working. I would not recommend this if you need reliable. never had an issue with my Holosun, I assumed this would be upto Vortex normal quality, it is NOT.

This review is for the absolutely brand new CCW with the 10 minute shut off instead of the 14 hour shut off let me tell you something I was impressed with the last one yes they refresh rate and the 14 hour shut off for a little bit of a pain but then this new one the dot is a lot crispier it's just really night and day they really hit it out of the ballpark with this new one great job vortex definitely recommend it

I have tried several micro red dot optics for my every day carry and this has won me over. A solid, commonsense design, large window, extremely durable and reliable at a low price point. It is far superior to anything else in its price point in my opinion, and even some MRDOs at "higher quality" price points. I recommend it to anyone looking for advice on a mrdo for their concealed carry weapon, even some duty weapons! Personally I prefer the 6 MOA option that I mounted on my Hellcat Pro and wow, it has a great sight picture! Shaved of .10 seconds on my draw to first shot and seemed increase my accuracy slightly after making the switch from the Sampfox Sentinel/Holosun 407k. Two options I had tried in the past on my EDC, that don't stand up to the Defender ccw.

Zeroed my two, new Defenders today, mounted on my FN Reflex's. No issues at all, other than turret knobs really don't "click" as you make POI adjustments, nor are they "audible". Not a deal breaker…just requires a bit of educated guess work when making elevation and/or windage adjustments.

14 hrs?

I think the texturing of the front face is ingenious. But a 14 hr shut off delay is just dumb. Five minutes or less is adequate. Someone doesn't understand the concept. Like a car radio screen set to get brighter as the ambient light gets darker, someone doesn't understand how eyes work. 14 hr delay, someone doesn't understand how gun carry works. It's the main objection I have for this. Too bad, otherwise it's a very nice package.

Pretty happy with the Vortex Defender in 6 MOA so far mounted to a Springfield Hellcat Pro. I've seen a couple reviews pertaining to battery life. I purchased mine in May and it's running well going on 9 months using the battery supplied with it out of the box from Vortex. Carry almost daily carry so it rarely goes off. Typically run it on setting 5 which I find good for most situations. Might bump it up a little higher on a sunny day or lower at night on the night stand. If you run any red dot cranked up high the battery life will be significantly shortened. Vortex's rating of 9,500 hours (13 months) at setting 6 seems reasonable and honest. I don't think any red dot is going to get 50,000 hours (5.7 years) carrying daily on a usable setting. I'll try to post back at 12 months (or if the battery runs down before that) as that's as long as I really would like it to last based on a yearly battery change.
